Axel Scheffler Visit

Greenleaf was thrilled to meet Axel Scheffler today – the well-known illustrator, famous primarily for his work with Julia Donaldson, most especially The Gruffalo.

Axel sketched many of his famous characters and told a range of the Julia Donaldson stories to children from Years 1 to 6.  He was extremely impressed with their behaviour and the range of questions they asked.

Axel then very kindly signed almost 100 books – personalising each one with a unique illustration.  Needless to say the children (and the staff!) were delighted.

Axel is very kindly allowing us to keep the illustrations he did today – either to display in school or to auction at Christmas.  We’ll let you know what we decide!

Thank you so much to Axel – truly inspirational!

Art Week 2014

The last week of half term brought art to Greenleaf, as we embarked on a detailed study of art from other cultures.  Each year group studied a different country/culture, for example China in Year 5, Henry Moore and sculpture in Year 2 and French art in Year 3.

The children in Year 5 and 6 also worked with a visiting artist, creating the most amazing glass art, now displayed outside the Year 5 classrooms.

All the children took part in art-related visits, with many visiting some of our amazing national galleries, including the Tate Modern and Tate Britain.
